We take care of the people who take care of Michigan’s county roads
Dedicated to maintaining safe county roads in Michigan, road commissions work hard to make a difference in their communities. The Michigan County Road Commission Self-Insurance Pool works hard as well to provide Property and Liability insurance coverage, loss control training, and other member services specifically geared to the needs of road commissions.
Partnering with Michigan Road Commissions since 1984
Before the Pool began, many County Road Commissions had trouble finding insurance carriers willing to cover their exposures. Legislation was passed In 1983 that provided the opportunity to create MCRCSIP and we have been “pooling” together ever since to provide reliable, consistent and affordable liability and physical damage insurance coverage. Today, MCRCSIP provides – not only quality insurance coverage specially tailored to our members’ exposures – but loss control training for their front line staff, education for their administrative staff and commissioners, and consulting services to support and enhance our prevention efforts. We truly are partners with our Members and work hard to make sure they are successful.
We provide county road commissions the following coverages:
NEW! Cyber Liability
Employment Practices, Public Officials Errors & Omissions Liability

MCRCSIP works hard for you
By pooling together resources from more than 70 county road commissions, the Pool can safely invest a significant amount into a growing portfolio. An actuary investigates our exposure to risk and weighs our potential earnings. We use those resources to secure the funds necessary in the event of having to settle a major lawsuit. And, since our members have a large stake in any lawsuit, we aggressively pursue the most frugal course of action in litigation. With the Pool acting on your county road commission’s behalf, you still control the situation.
